ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH
This is a photoshoot conducted taking BWISAGU in mind. Bwisagu festival is observed at the beginning of the Boro year, around mid-April. I had an idea to photograph a Boro sikhla(Boro Girl) wearing Dokhona(traditional dress worn by boro women) playing the musical instruments Serjã and Sifung, which are often played by men. The weather that day was very hot and humid and the model was very exhausted as she had to pose under the scorching sun. She was very professional and is a sweetheart.
Young men play the Sifung(flute), Kham(drum), the four-stringed Serjã, and beat out a rhythm with Thãrkhã a piece of split bamboo. Girls dance in bands and play on Gongonã and small cymbals called Jotha.
About the Model
Geetawaly Das is the model in the photographs. She was an amateur on my first photoshoot with her and has been my favourite since then. She has grown up to be very professional and would love to explore more of her.
