ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH
Two girls, adorned in vibrant Sador Mekhela with bangles, joyfully immerse themselves in the art of cooking Pitha and laddu. After they create the delicious treats, they carry their culinary delights to the riverside, blending tradition and festivity during Bihu.
Bihu comprises three significant cultural festivals exclusive to the Indian state of Assam: 'Rongali' or 'Bohag Bihu' in April, celebrating the vibrant spirit of spring; 'Kongali' or 'Kati Bihu' in October/November, a somber reflection on short supplies; and 'Bhogali' or 'Magh Bihu' in January, a harvest festival marked by community feasts.
Behind The Scenes
The model in the frames are Bristirekha and Sagarika. Sagarika was starting out as the make-up artist in the shoot, and is an well-acclaimed now. The photoshoot was assisted by Chintu Nick. The dress code was 'Mekhela Sador" but I didn't had any idea about the Location or how am I going to frame the shots. So, I went with my gut and I played with the sunlight and the reflector. I also used the riverside as a prop and was an exhilarating morning to evening shoot. The girls were too enthusiastic and has put up with me throughout the shoot in an empty stomach.
