ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH
I was strolling with my camera in the locality when I saw these known faces returning from their 'Holi Geet' Rehearsal. I used the Aabir(color) in their faces as the integral part of the photographs.
On the day of Dol Utsav or Holi, entire streets and towns turn red, green and yellow as people throw 'Aabir' or 'Gulaal' into the air and splash them on others. Each color carries a meaning. Red, for example, symbolizes love and fertility while green stands for new beginnings.
Assam joyously commemorates Dol Utsav, also known as Dol Jatra, a vibrant festival of colors heralding the arrival of spring. Dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha, this celebration takes place on the full moon day, marking the conclusion of the Assamese calendar year. The festivities include singing, dancing, and cultural programs, creating a majestic atmosphere that resonates with the spirit of the season. In certain regions, it is referred to as Dol Purnima and Basanta Utsav, adding to the cultural diversity of this lively and colorful festival.
